Until recently it was thought that the moon arose from the original nebula from which planets and many satellites were formed. But as a result of the journeys of the Apollo missions, the theory arose that our satellite was formed as a consequence of a collision between the earth and a large celestial body. This theory has been backed up by computer simulations showing in images how this catastrophic event could have taken place. In this clip you can see in a realistic way how this cosmic encounter could have created the moon.
